Tis the Season for Christmas Parties

I really like this time of year because I get to catch up with so many people I haven’t seen all year long at the many Christmas Parties all over town. I am always amazed at how friendly and wonderful people in the Nashville and surrounding areas are in and around the real estate industry. While we all compete with one another, it is never in a cut throat way and always with respect.

For all of those I will miss seeing; Have a Wonderful Holiday Season and enjoy your Christmas and New Year! I wish you all a very prosperous 2010!

The Website is a Changing

Over the next month you will see some changes on the website that I hope you will appreciate. The goal is to bring you more information on what is available locally for first time buyers in the Nashville and surrounding areas as well as what is going on with interest rates and the mortgage industry as a whole. As the national standards that have been set in the industry are rolled out before the first of the year, it is a good time to get this information to you so you can make better decisions on your next mortgage.

If there is anything that you would like to see on the website, please let me know by sending me an email via my contact form. I know it has been a difficult year for some and we have certainly had our moments this year. It has also been a time to bind together and get things done and we are so very thankful that we are healthy and happy.

The Love of Golf

I have been playing golf all my life. That’s not to say that I am any good because I’m not but I love the game! I play with people that are all about the competition but I don’t. I learned a long time ago that I am competition enough for me so I play to enjoy the company of those around me; to enjoy being outdoors and getting a little bit of exercise and; to challenge myself to be better when I play than I was the last time.

I’m sure there are those die-hard golfers out there that hate golfers like me. Yeah, I like to score better but at the end of the day, I just want to have had a great time and when I play golf, that always happens and that’s why I love the game.

Who Needs Internships These Days?

Well, according to recent information there are a lot of people vying for internships these days and they are not all part of the college crowd. It seems that unpaid internships are just as competitive as the paid ones as more and more out of work professionals are trying to get started in new positions or find a way to remake themselves for alternative industries by doing unpaid internships.

I can see this as a viable option if you are wondering if your skill set will translate to another industry or if you want to make sure you will enjoy working in another field before diving headlong into the process of finding a new job there. I do feel for the kids and adults that are in their last year of college and they need the internship to graduate and for the new graduates coming out of college looking to start their careers. Of course, you can always start your own company or go to work on straight commission. Both are hard roads to travel but can be very worth it down the road.

400 Channels and there’s Nothing to Watch

I’m not sure why there is nothing to watch on TV when there are 400 channels to choose from but that seems to be the case more than not these days. Maybe it’s because we watch to much TV anyway and have seen everything that interests us at least twice. Even the Premium Channels such as HBO, Showtime and Cinamax show the same movies and series so many times that you could watch them four or five times if you so choose. I’m not so sure that my son has not found the right combination.

While I pay close to two hundred dollars a month for cable, phone and internet, he pays less than seventy dollars a month for all three. He and his wife take another thirty dollars a month and buy movies they know they will want to watch more than once on sale at different outlets both retail and online. They have more movies than anyone I know but always have a great selection when company is over, for kids of all ages or when it’s just the two of them. I’m tempted to do the same thing if I can only convince my wife to give up True Blood while it is new for the series on DVD and that will be hard to do!

It’s a Good Time for a Holiday

Every year when you need it, Thanksgiving comes along. It reminds us all of what is really important; husbands and wives; children; mothers and fathers; friends and other important people in our lives. It’s never too early and it’s never too late to remember all that is good and all those that have been so good to us through the years.

Where’s the Bottom?

Yesterday I listened to all the pundits on Sunday morning TV. Almost all of them predicted a gloom and doom economic picture all the way through 2009 in the overall economy as well as housing and mortgages. Now I am not an economist and won’t pretend to know any different information than they do, however, I look at things a little differently.

The first thing I think about is the $6.00 a gallon gas I should be paying at the pump this month. After all, it was the “experts” that forecasted that number not even 6 months ago. I figure if the experts can miss that one, they can miss this one as well. The other thing I think of is all the misses the news and media have made, not over the past 5 to 8 years, but over the last 25 to 28 years. It seems instead of digging for the real answers they just pass on the opinions of the so called “experts”. I believe in America so I don’t really care about if and when or where or why we hit bottom; I care about moving forward and creating a better world. If we concentrate on that, the economy will turn around.
